Targeted Intervention Programmes

At Compass Education, our Inclusion Leaders deliver a range of targeted intervention programmes designed to support students with specific challenges or areas for development. These small-group, school-based interventions run over six weeks and focus on key topics such as behaviour, emotional regulation, relationships, and decision-making. In line with Recommendation 5 from the EEF’s Improving Behaviour in Schools guidance, these programmes provide a structured, evidence-informed approach for students who need additional support beyond universal strategies. By creating a safe, consistent space to build skills, reflect on choices, and improve self-regulation, our interventions help students to make positive changes that benefit both their learning and their wider wellbeing.

Integrated Video Content

Videos are used throughout the intervention programmes to bring ideas to life and connect learning to real-world scenarios. Whether it’s exploring emotions, challenging behaviour, or understanding different perspectives, video content helps students engage more deeply and reflect more meaningfully. These clips are carefully chosen to illustrate key themes, prompt discussion, and offer a window into situations they can relate to or learn from. By combining visual storytelling with guided reflection, the videos help make abstract ideas feel real, relevant, and memorable.

Interactive Resources, All in One Place

To support learning both during and beyond the sessions, students have access to a central Padlets packed with interactive resources. From videos and reflection prompts to discussion tasks and digital activities, the Padlet helps reinforce key messages and encourages students to keep thinking, learning and growing outside the intervention space.

Linked Podcasts

To extend learning beyond the session, each intervention includes access to specially created podcasts. These short, engaging episodes explore key themes from the programme — such as decision-making, relationships, or resilience — and are designed to spark reflection in a relatable way. Whether listened to at home or used as part of a session, the podcasts offer an additional layer of connection and reinforcement. They help students hear different perspectives, revisit important messages, and keep the conversation going beyond the workbook.

Teacher Delivery Booklets

Each intervention comes with a detailed teacher delivery booklet to ensure consistency, clarity and impact. These guides break down the content into a well-paced, structured journey that supports students through each stage of the intervention. With clear aims, session plans, suggested language, and key questions, the booklets are designed to help staff deliver the programme with confidence and sensitivity. The structured format ensures that every intervention is delivered purposefully and in line with its intended outcomes, while still allowing space for professional judgement and flexibility.

Building Real-Life Skills

At the heart of each intervention is a focus on developing the skills students need to navigate challenging situations with greater confidence. Whether it’s learning how to manage emotions, communicate clearly, handle peer pressure or pause before reacting, each session is designed to build strategies that can be used in everyday life. Students are supported to reflect on their responses, consider the consequences of different actions, and practise making choices that align with who they want to be. It’s about equipping them not just with insight — but with tools they can use.

Exploring Real-World Scenarios

The interventions use relatable, real-world scenarios to help students connect ideas to their everyday experiences. These situations, drawn from realistic school and social contexts, encourage young people to think through what might happen, how different people might feel, and what choices are available. By exploring these scenarios in a safe and supported way, students build empathy, deepen their understanding, and develop the confidence to apply positive strategies when similar situations arise in their own lives.

Checking Understanding with Kahoot

To help reinforce key learning, students take part in fun, interactive quizzes using Kahoot. These quick-fire quizzes are designed to check understanding in a low-pressure, engaging way — helping students recap what they've learned, spot any gaps, and build confidence in their knowledge. The quizzes also spark discussion and reflection, making sure the key messages are understood and remembered.

Bespoke Student Workbooks

Each intervention programme is supported by a bespoke student workbook, carefully designed to meet the needs of the individual. These workbooks provide a clear structure for the sessions, combining reflection tasks, practical strategies, and creative activities. Tailored to each young person’s context, they encourage engagement, ownership and progression over time. The workbook acts as a personal record of their journey, offering space to explore thoughts, develop insight, and track their growth in a way that’s meaningful to them.

Knowing Where to Turn for Support

A key part of the programmes is making sure students know they're not alone. We introduce a range of brilliant organisations and support services they can turn to — both in school and beyond. Whether it’s talking to a trusted adult, accessing support online, using helplines, or visiting local services, students learn that help is always available in different forms. We empower them to speak up, seek support, and support others to do the same.

A Fully Sequenced Learning Journey

Each intervention is carefully structured to take students on a clear, purposeful learning journey. Sessions are sequenced to build understanding gradually — starting with reflection and awareness, moving through exploration and skill-building, and ending with forward-looking action and personal growth. This approach ensures that learning is layered and meaningful, allowing students to make connections over time and develop lasting change. Every stage has a clear purpose, helping students move from where they are to where they want to be.

High-Quality, Engaging Materials

Every intervention is supported by a range of high-quality resources designed to keep students engaged and involved. From visually appealing PowerPoints to hands-on activities and discussion-based tasks, each element has been carefully developed to suit different learning styles and needs. The materials are clear, purposeful and age-appropriate — helping to bring each session to life while reinforcing key messages. Whether it’s a practical task, a thought-provoking video, or a creative activity, everything is designed to support meaningful learning and reflection.

Building Positive Relationships

Strong, trusting relationships are at the heart of every intervention. Time is taken to connect with each student as an individual — to listen, understand their story, and create a safe space where they feel respected and valued. These relationships form the foundation for meaningful progress. By focusing on connection first, we help students feel seen and supported, which opens the door to honest reflection, behaviour change, and a stronger sense of belonging in school.

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing

Emotional wellbeing is central to every intervention we deliver. Each programme creates a safe, supportive space where students can express themselves, explore their feelings, and begin to understand what’s going on beneath the surface. Through guided activities and reflective conversations, students are helped to name emotions, recognise triggers, and develop healthier coping strategies. The focus is on building resilience, self-awareness and confidence — so that students feel more secure, more understood, and better equipped to manage life’s ups and downs.

Parental Information and Support

We know that lasting change is most effective when school and home work together. That’s why each intervention is supported by clear, accessible information for parents and carers. This includes an overview of the programme, its aims, and guidance on how to support their child’s learning and wellbeing throughout. By keeping parents informed and involved, we help build consistency around key messages and create a shared approach to supporting positive behaviour, emotional growth and stronger relationships.
